Manuel de
Elias (1939-)
Elias is a
Mexican composer and conductor who initially studied under his father
composition. Been involved so deeply in the music scenarios push him to be the
founder of the Music Institute at the University of Veracruz, which
was established in 1975. His passion was so big that he also founded the Jalisco
Philharmonic Orchestra in 1988 and directed the “Las Rosas Conservatory” in Morelian in 1990-91.
His
victorious accomplishment as a conductor pushes him to work with the most
important orchestras of Mexico such as:
-The Xalapa
-The National
SO (1968-1972)
His work was
recognized all around the world, in result he been invited to a guest conductor
in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Spain, the USA and Argentina.
His hard
works push him to be awarded the National Prize for Arts and Sciences of Mexico in
1992.He has produced 175 scores. Many of his works make use of serialism and images or graphics in the scores.
Elias extreme
care and detail oriented musical language elaboration place him in a different
level among others artist of his generation. His melodies frequently arise from
12-note series.
Elias is 72 years old and
lives in his natal Mexico.
